Why Cushion?

Some cushion cut diamonds have what the industry call a “crushed ice” effect which is where there is a greater refraction of light because of the nature of the facets within the stone where light literally reflects against many small facets that resemble crushed ice. Because of its extra facets, the Cushion cut can disperse more light through the stone which serves to hide inclusions more efficiently, making it one of the most brilliant of all square - and rectangular-shaped stones.

Did you know?

Cushion cut engagement rings have grown more popular in recent years as they offer better value per carat than round or princess cut diamonds. Heidi Klum, Ivanka Trump and Nicole Kidman have all worn cushion cut engagement rings.

Diamond Facet Structure

Originating in the 19th century, a cushion cut diamond will usually have 58 facets. The ideal ratios are 1.00 to 1.05 for a square and 1.10+ for a rectangular cushion cut. For increased scintillation go for a cushion with a “crushed-ice effect.”
